Multi Shipping Container Home, - Atira Women’s Resource, - Alexander Street, Vancouver, Canada,

Multi Shipping Container Home, - Atira Women’s Resource, - Alexander Street, Vancouver, Canada,

An affordable housing complex built from a dozen old shipping containers was unveiled in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

The 12 shipping containers on Alexander Street near Jackson Avenue have been converted into apartments by the Atira Women's Resource Society, which bought a lot on the block in 2009. The first shipping container was dropped on the lot at the end of November, and each unit cost $82,500 to build.

The 320-square-foot containers have been stacked three high and feature 290 square feet of living space. Each unit has its own private bathroom, kitchen and in-suite laundry. The homes also have floor-to-ceiling windows, and each floor is linked by an external staircase.

MEKA ALP 320 custom built Container Homes Canada

MEKA buildings are very affordable because they are produced in our factory making them cost effective compared to conventional construction.

MEKAs are constructed in an enclosed facility, therefore weather is not a factor in the construction timeline. Material delivery fees are also out of the equation because an ample amount of material will always be available at our factory, as opposed to being delivered in limited quantities to the job site, nearly eliminating construction delays, and theft of building materials from the site.

MEKAs are priced lower than their site-built counterparts and are more cost-effective to builders and consumers

2 x 20ft ISBU high top containers, making a nice 16x20 feet home.
